I bought a 51″ 3D Plasma HDTV, 1080p, 60hz, for $999.This subreddit is for discussion about the futuristic anti-gravity racing game WipEout and other similar anti-gravity racing games. However, for those of us who waited until our older TVs crapped out, why not buy a 3D HDTV? When we purchased a 60″ rear projection TV (480i) in 2000, the thing cost over $4,000. The main problem is that a lot of people only recently upgraded to HDTVs, so it is a big deal to ask them to upgrade again. I’ll take a great 30fps game over a crappy 60fps one any day! But, frankly, I don’t think playing a 3D game, knowing that the 60fps has become 30fps for each eye, is a less “worthy” experience than playing a 60fps game. Will games ever reach 120fps as a standard? I doubt it. I’ve played 3D on a smaller TV as well and wouldn’t ever go under 40″, but 80″ is overkill. I purchased a 51″ 3D HDTV and the immersion is just fine. They are also very “dark” and harder to see.ģ. They require you to sit exactly centered and don’t work for people on the sides. Technology needs to improve to really make it take It may very well be that 3D becomes the standard built into TV’s in a few years because it isn’t very expensive to include.Ģ. (Most games nowadays on consoles can barely handle 30FPS let alone 60FPS. 80 inch 3DTV would be perfect.)Ĥ.) Games have to really take advantage of the 3D tech and have 120FPS as the standard for games. (You really need a 60 inch or bigger to really feel immersed w/ 3D. (I already wear glasses and having another set of glasses on just gives me a head ache after 2 hours of watching the screen.)ģ.) More affordable prices on glasses free 3DTVs. (Similar to how nowadays you can only buy smart phones and not regular cell phones.) Only ways that’ll make me upgrade to a 3DTV is the following reasons.ġ.) If those are the only types of TVs available when I go to replace my TV. I’m fine right now with my dual shock and PS Move but 3D right now I’m still iffy about the tech. The idea of 3D on paper is cool but in reality I find it to be more of an annoyance then something that’ll immerse me when I’m playing a game. Also, their dynamic environments take quite a work load not to mention that every object is now rendered on it’s own. Then again, if you’re talking about games like Uncharted 3… I’d ask you to look more into their new dynamic lighting technology versus their previous pre rendered shadings and tell me what’s better. If a game suffers graphically it’s because the developers let it so. So please, stop getting worked up over crap you don’t quite understand. They are two different code sets for 2D and 3D. What you fail to understand is that a game rendered in 3D will only show compromises that 3D brings in 3D, it doesn’t carry over into the 2D area as simple check coding statements provide the extra memory allocations for the 2D renderings. 3D conversions do not cause less draw distance, they may cause slight pop ins due to buffering, the do not cause the game to look ‘worse’ unless the developers cause the game to look ‘worse’. Apparently you guys are ‘highly’ over complicating the 3D conversion process and blaming the wrong thing for the so called ‘compromises’ that come with 3D. But even with more sophisticated and affordable 3D technology, we need 3D games to play and 3D movies to watch. Affordable 3D gaming was a reoccurring theme at this year’s PlayStation E3 keynote, whether it was the announcement of PlayStation’s upcoming 3D Gaming Display and redesigned 3D glasses. ![]()
